Blog: Stray Thoughts on Ancap Strategy
Anarcho-capitalists aim for a world of voluntary transactions, competition in law-making, and complete laissez-faire. What do we do in the meantime?
No, I don’t think we should become minarchists “while the state exists”. In other words, we shouldn’t support or pursue policies that define minarchism, such as state-provided military, police, and courts.
So what should we do?
Frankly, I think almost all work within the state apparatus is likely in vain. What we should be doing is creating alternatives, and especially alternatives in governance. Create communities—whether it be online, or centered around a church or sport or game, or some other shared interest. When you do this you will find yourself creating rules. You will find yourself creating order. And every time this is done, a top-down state imposed order becomes more difficult to justify.
Vote if you like, it’s probably not going to make a difference. But build community too. At the very least, you and your friends and loved ones will be better off. And if you’re lucky you may make a dent in the religion of the state.
